Some new soldier conversions for Frostgrave

On Sunday I painted up six of the fantastic new Magi figures from Iain Lovecraft’s Frost:2 Kickstarter, (click here for a read of the hobby blog I wrote about painting them). On Monday I got to thinking how much I’d like to use them for a league in Frostgrave, how ever although I have many miniatures I’ve painted over the years for Frostgrave, none of them would go with these new wizards. By teat time I’d decided that I would kit0-bash eight suitable miniatures to make a new team, so after dinner I sat down with my bits box and started playing. These eight miniatures have been assembled using components from the following plastic sets: Frostgrave Soldiers, Ghost Archipelago Crew and Ghost Archipelago Tribals. I had all of these spare bit’s in my bits-box, but if you are short of any of them, Sally 4th sell individual sprues of plastic miniatures, click here to take a look.

Once the glue had dried, the figures were glued on to temporary painting bases and then undercoated using Halfords White Auto Primer.

Skin areas were then painted with Speed Paint Noble Skin and when dried dry-brushed lightly with Tanned Flesh.

Yellow was going to be a prominent colour so I painted that first using Maize Yellow, Ancient Honey and Maize Yellow with a slight hint of Ghillie Dew (green).

Green & Red were the next colours to tie the soldiers in with the 3D printed Mage’s. I like Shamrock Green, it’s a lovely vibrant, vivid tone.

Some miniatures have two pieces of clothing or equipment painted in the two chosen tones, Magic Blue and Caribbean Ocean.

Now that the clothing has all been painted it is time to paint weapons and equipment. I chose four brownish tones for this (Hardened Leather, Dark Wood, Pallid Stone and Sand Golem).

Hair was painted Grim Black and various detail picked out in gold and silver and that was the soldiers completed. The models were sprayed with Army Painter Matt Varnish and then mounted on 25mm diameter clear round bases.

3D printed ruins from FrostGuard (available as an add on to Frost:2 campaign). Game mat is ‘Iced Flagstone’ also available from Frost:2 printed on Fabric.

Zombie Miniature’s are from Iain Lovecraft’s original Frost campaign and are now available as a multi-part metal kit.

Game mat is ‘Blue Ice’ from Frost:2 campaign (printed on fabric).

This Game mat is ‘Blue Snow’ from Frost:2 printed on Fabric.

Curtain call! All six Magi from Frost 2 that I painted on Sunday morning together with the eight Frostgrave Soldier conversions from plastic components that I painted today.

Frost:2 by Iain Lovecraft is in it’s last couple of days. The campaign runs until Friday 30th June, you can take a look at it by clicking here.
