EU Shipping Update

As of 1st July 2021, all shipments from the UK to the EU will be subject to VAT. The VAT rate is usually based at 20% but is different for some regions so please do check the VAT rate for your area before purchase.

The 'EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement', valid as of January 1st 2021, provides a low or nil tariff customs charges for products originating in the UK. Sally 4th ensures correct 'HS Codes' are used on Customs Forms as 'Proof of Origin' that our products are  produced in UK -  these products qualify for preferential treatment (Zero Tariff) under the agreement. This means no Customs Duties are charged (but VAT must still be accounted for).

Individual Countries may apply additional handling fees of Goods. VAT percentage may also vary between countries. This is charged at the discretion of the country and region's postal service and customs and is out of our control.

You will not be affected by these changes if you are based outside of Europe.

It is the customer's role to be aware of any charges that may be due on import into your respective countries.

Do not order in expectation of avoiding these cost - the EU customs system is being streamlined to handle the collection of more VAT charges.

Do not ask me to undervalue packages on customs declarations, nor to mark them as 'gifts' - the forthcoming changes to the EU VAT rules have been brought in specifically to counter VAT fraud.

Do not expect VAT to be deducted when you place an order with Sally 4th – Sally 4th is not VAT registered therefore VAT is not paid at the point of sale by any customer. VAT may still be levied on import into your country.

I can imagine all this will make many EU customers very reluctant to place an order. I'm very sorry for that - I didn't vote for Brexit and have campaigned against it for the last four years and it will almost certainly negatively affect my business. EU customers make up a sizeable proportion of my sales and I expect to lose most of those.

Update 22nd September: I have temporarily suspended postal options to the EU. Orders are being held for to long by EU customs leading to customer complaints and we are having to many orders that have the customs documentation filled in correctly returned, at our cost. We are still shipping orders to the EU but only via courier services such as Fedex / UPS / DPD.

For any rest-of-world customers reading this, nothing really changes - the above information relates to EU countries only. Outside the EU customers have always been liable for any import duty, VAT or other charges levied by their governments. However, it is always the customer's role to be aware of any taxes and charges that may be due on import into your respective countries.
If you reject a VAT and handling fee charge from your postal or delivery service and the order is returned to me, a refund will be given - minus shipping costs and a £1 admin fee - when the package arrived back with me. But please don't order if you don't want to pay the VAT and handling fees - it will just cost you and me time and money.

I'd like to thank all my EU customers for their support over the years and I hope you will continue to shop in some way with Sally 4th. The post-Transition Period situation will be difficult for myself and many other small manufacturers who sell direct to EU customers – no trade deal can compensate for not being in the Customs Union and common VAT area.
