Last Saturday we held our second Pulp Alley games day at Geek Retreat in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. We had 20 gamers playing Pulp Alley with a Space Opera Theme. If, you’ve not come across Pulp Alley before, I highly recommend checking it out. It has been my ‘go-to’ set of skirmish rules for the last 14 years. You can field a league that contains anything from one epic character to a ‘platoon’ of around 30 miniatures, although 4-7 is a more typical league size, the rules are easy to understand, keep all players involved at all times and can be used for any genre from Cave-men to Space-men!! We had seven tables set up, with a different mission being played on each table. This table had an ‘Aliens’ theme, featuring a building that had been converted to an alien – hive. The buildings were 3D printed from designs by LV-427. This scenario saw leagues trying to verify the correctness of a data chip, by consulting various experts. The scenario was based on ‘The Scrolls’ from China Station Scenario book.
Here we see Avon & Villa from Blakes 7 talking to a Cyber Kid.
Inside the nest, within an oily perilous area another young IT expert consults her data pad.
As we had so many more players than expected, lots of scenarios were played with four players!
Keith brought along this beautiful Space Port table that won the competition for ‘best table’. This was used to run the ‘Last Flight’ scenario from Perilous Island campaign book.
Another China Station scenario, ‘The Fog’.
Leagues have arrived on a planet being assimilated by ‘The Borg’. Four homing beacons must be disabled, revealing a central console while dodging the Borg and Borg Queen and the perils of an ever decreasing perilous smog.
The alternative earth Nazi Moon Base. This was beautiful and a very close runner up for the best table award!
This was a great table for an introductory game. We played the ‘Trail of Clues’ from the main rule book.
I used my Star Trek Away Team league. It was maybe the bloodiest Pulp Alley game that I have played in 15 years. It is the only game I can remember where both leagues Leaders went down! The Red Shirts (who are now wearing Ops Division Yellow), did a fantastic job sacrificing themselves to the cause!
Everybody had a fantastic time. We all enjoyed our selves and are now looking forward to the next Pulp Alley gaming day on 17th May, where the theme is Gothic Horror. Tickets for the event are available by clicking here.
