With a few days left to run on the WaterSpire Kickstarter which completes on Friday 19th, I am trying to put together a quick and easy painting guide to get ‘gaming quality’ miniatures on the table in double quick time. This morning I have painted ‘The Clown’.
After mounting on a MDF flagstone base and priming using Halfords Auto Primer, I painted the face with Army Painter Speedpaint Crusader Skin. This is the best skin tone I have found, and I have all the GW Citadel Contrast and the Speedpaint 2.0 range!
I love this colour, Familiar Pink, as it says on the bottle a ‘Vivid Pink’. Very bright and cheerful.
Maize Yellow is an incredible choice for anything that you want to paint in a bright yellow, as this is a colour notoriously difficult to shade and highlight with out looking dirty!
Finishing of the trio of bright, vivid colour, I have chosen Caribbean Ocean.
The areas of the model that I want to paint white, I have washed over with Soft Tone to give some nice definition.
When the wash is dry, I have overpainted back to white with Army Painter White, but any white would do!
The edging and the bells on the tunic were picked out with normal acrylic. A deep blue and gold. I had some Vallejo so used that. Any similar would be fine.
The last thing to paint is the dagger, which I painted using the Speed-paint Metallic Broadsword Silver.
I paint all my flagstone bases using some household emulsion that I paint flagstone terrain boards with. This ensures a good match. I then use 3 different tones of grey to pick out some individual stones before applying a Strong Tone wash over the base.
He is not going to win any painting competitions, but that is not the point. He looks quiet acceptable as a gaming miniature and within 48 hours of arriving from 3D printers is painted and ready for action across the roof tops of Venice.
All of the miniatures, buildings, bridges, statues, scatter terrain and gaming mats are part of the WaterSpire Kickstarter. If you’ve not seen it yet, click here to take a look!
